About Fernanda (versión Español)
Therapy can be one of the most intimidating experiences a person will ever participate in, but it can also be one of the most life-changing! I believe that the experience of therapy should be one of collaboration with my clients, working side-by-side to discover new and more positive ways of living.
I will work with you to forge paths towards fulfillment, while offering tools and support when the journey becomes frustrating or difficult. I strongly believe that every person holds an incredible amount of strength within themselves, and that (with a little help) we can tap into it and persevere over our darkest moments. As your therapist, I’ll help you become familiar with techniques that will be conducive to productive changes, in both behavioral and emotional aspects of your life. I provide a warm, nonjudgmental space where we cultivate better coping strategies, helping you learn how to deal with the most troubling emotions.
I challenge my clients to turn towards the parts of themselves that are the hardest to accept, and work towards figuring out which patterns of thought and behavior are detrimental to your quality of life, all while heavily infusing the process with self-compassion and acceptance. Through this, we will begin to create new ways of being, hopefully resulting in a life that is more reflective of what you truly value, one filled with genuineness and self-love.
In session, I practice the ACT modality (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). ACT incorporates mindfulness techniques that can help reduce anxiety, depression, and other difficult emotions through changing thought patterns, creating self-acceptance, and learning to become more present within your life. This form of therapy helps clients get “un-stuck,” so that they can live more fully in the here-and-now.
Fostering self-compassion is also something I incorporate in therapy, helping clients learn how to be less critical and more loving towards themselves. I also implement other mindfulness techniques, such as meditation, breathing and relaxation exercises, along with yoga-inspired bodywork.
