Professional Profile

Jen (she/they) is a holistic therapist with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston, under the supervision of Aryn Thompson, LCSWS. Trained in psychodynamics and group work, Jen integrates trauma-informed, person-centered approaches with mindfulness, somatics, polyvagal theory, dreamwork, DBT, CBT, and creative modalities to foster deep insight and transformation.

Guided by warmth, curiosity, and a respect for each individual’s unique experience, Jen’s path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by her experiences as an artist, her involvement in creative subcultures of music and LGBTQ+ spaces, and her interest in esoteric and mystic practices. She believes that therapy is a profound catalyst for healing—a relational process where transformation emerges through connection, attuned presence, and inner wisdom.

Jen embraces diverse perspectives and honors the many ways individuals create meaning in their lives. In her free time, she enjoys sunshine walks, swimming, cooking, laughter, dreaming, following weekly astrology, and dancing to psychedelic music.

Welcome!

Hi there! I’m Jen, and I believe therapy is a co-creative process—a space where we can explore what’s coming up for you with curiosity, depth, and even a little humor. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking a deeper connection with yourself, I’m here to support you. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, empowered, and in alignment with who you are. If this resonates with you, I’d love to connect!

How I Work

Sessions together may involve cultivating mindful awareness to process emotions, reflective dialogue to recognize patterns, and embodied practices to help you tune into your body’s wisdom. I enjoy weaving in creative and alternative ways to cope, find meaning, and promote transformations that resonate with you and support the mind, body, and spirit.

Spotlight

Therapist Spotlight

What made you decide to become a counselor?

I’ve always been an empathetic, intuitive person, deeply in touch with my own feelings and the experiences of others. Life is full of challenges, and I believe we need connection, empathy, and the courage to face those challenges. My own life experiences—art, grief, caretaking, and resilience—have guided me to this path. I find joy in being with people, sharing laughter, and exploring our patterns and insights together. There’s something incredibly transformative about being seen by someone who is open, shares your truth, and challenges you to grow.

If you could teach the world one skill or technique to improve their lives, what would it be?

Self-compassion! It’s so often difficult to offer ourselves the same grace and love that we naturally extend to others. Along with that, I would emphasize nervous system regulation. Being in tune with our feelings and our body’s natural responses helps us build intuition and authentic expression. This allows us to tap into our inner wisdom,

navigate challenges—big and small—and respond in the moment with clarity. It also can help us to recognize when to set boundaries for cultivating healthier, more balanced relationships.

Have you personally been in counseling and if so, what did you learn about yourself?

Yes! Like art, I see therapy as an ongoing process and practice! I’ve learned that growth and healing are fluid—it’s not always linear. There’s always room for new perspectives, transformational shifts, and ways of navigating challenges. I’ve found that even in steady times of life, therapy gives me a place to be seen and a safe place to verbally process my feelings! For me, it’s a cathartic experience.

If you could recommend one book to all your clients, what would it be?

Reading is a powerful way to shift perspective, but I wouldn’t necessarily prescribe  one single book. Instead, I’d ask: What about the book of your life? Dream Journal? Or perhaps some bizarre fiction that allows you to step into new worlds and narratives to reframe a situation in an unexpected way? I do enjoy Carl Jung’s writing about Synchronicity and Yung Pueblo quotes. And I avidly listen to Jessica Lanyadoo’s “Ghost of Astrology” podcast that discusses the weekly planetary transits.

What inspires you to help others?

The idea that transformation is possible for everyone—through connection, empathy, and understanding—deeply inspires me. I believe that individuals can uncover their own strength and wisdom, especially when they feel truly seen and supported. I’m also mindful that we aren’t always taught to be in touch with our feelings, and when those feelings are held in, they can impact our minds and bodies in ways we might not even realize. Therapy is largely about learning to identify our feelings and allowing ourselves to sit with the energy of those emotions, even when it feels uncomfortable. As Astrologer Jessica Lanyadoo often says, “Emotions are just energy in motion,” and that really resonates with me.

Who is your ideal client?

I appreciate clients who are curious about the process and willing to engage in both the deep and sometimes the uncomfortable work of growth.

How do you personally practice self-care?

I practice self-care through regular movement, like swimming and hiking, as well as creative outlets such as cooking, journaling, and spending time in nature. Meditation and mindfulness also help me stay centered and honor my bodies signals. I als ensure I have downtime to relax and recharge— which can involve setting good boundaries out of self-love!

How do you relate to Mindfulness? How do you incorporate it in your sessions?

Mindfulness is woven into my daily life and practice. I stay grounded through walks in nature, connecting with astrology and moon cycles, tending to my altar, and honoring my personal rhythms. For me, mindfulness is all about being fully present and aware of the moment—tuning into my body and mind without judgment. I helps me stay centered and connected, whether I’m working with clients or navigating my own life cycles.

If you are hosting a dinner party, who are the 3 people you would invite and why?

Janis Joplin – She would bring soulful tunes and stories full of raw emotion and wisdom.

Anthony Bourdain – He would bring amazing food, and his stories from traveling all over the world would make for some great conversation.

My mom – She was smart, hilarious, and full of insight. She always knew how to bring people together and make them feel understood, all while keeping things fun.
